About Saddam Hussein: A Picture Is Worth A Thousand Words

Saddam Hussein was executed yesterday. We can expect the mainstream media to provide saturated coverage of Saddam's brutal rule the next few days when they are not too busy lionizing Gerald Ford's memory. I certainly will not mourn this man's passing. Otherwise, all I have to say is to the left is a picture of President Ronald Reagan's Special Envoy Donald Rumsfeld shaking hands with Saddam Hussein in 1984. The same Donald Rumsfeld who served as President Gerald Ford's Secretary of Defense in the 1970s and designed the incompetent occupation of Iraq under President George W. Bush. Unless you've lived in a cave the past few years this picture should be familiar. Nevertheless, a reminder is in order.

I wish someone pays for billboards pasted with this picture all over in the republican strongholds
while no one would weep for the fallen dictator. one should weep at the packaging of dishonesty, personal grudges, and not to mention access to oil in the guise of democracy and all that bovine manure. One should weep at the hundreds of thousands of innocent people getting killed everyday, not to mention the soldiers being picked off by the dozens every month

This whole thing has been a shitshow of bloodlust and hypocrisy.

What a mess.

It's weird how Saddam's death is so anticlimactic. It really says something about the state of Iraq. The misery of the occupation is so much more pressing than the news of his death.

What does Bush have left now? What else can he blame the lack of progress on?
